What a 6.7% salary increase adds to your net pay
Two things come out of every increase: 10.5% employee insurance (social, health and unemployment) until the caps, and personal income tax on what's left after the ₫15.5 million personal deduction. Since July 2026 the tax runs in five brackets from 5% to 35%. Lower and middle earners keep close to nine-tenths of an increase; on ₫25 million a month you keep about 85%.
| Gross a month now | Net a month now | Net after 6.7% | You keep | Increase to match 5.1% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₫8 million | ₫7,160,000 | ₫7,639,720 | 90% | 5.1% |
| ₫15 million | ₫13,425,000 | ₫14,324,475 | 89% | 5.1% |
| ₫25 million | ₫22,031,250 | ₫23,455,419 | 85% | 5.3% |
| ₫40 million | ₫34,270,000 | ₫36,428,740 | 81% | 5.4% |
| ₫60 million | ₫50,274,400 | ₫53,458,240 | 79% | 5.4% |
| ₫100 million | ₫80,085,100 | ₫84,731,700 | 69% | 5.9% |
PayMetric Labs' own modelled estimate: resident employee, no dependants, Region I insurance caps (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City), the five-bracket PIT schedule in force since 1 July 2026 and the ₫15.5 million personal deduction, applied to both years. No 13th-month salary, Tết bonus or allowances. Each dependant adds a ₫6.2 million monthly deduction; see the dependants calculator.
Why Vietnam leads the region on salary increases
Aon surveyed more than 1,200 businesses across six markets from July to September 2026. Vietnam's 6.7% tops the table, ahead of Indonesia at 5.5%, while the regional average is 5.2% and Singapore sits at 4.1%. Vietnam has led the region on salary increases in each of the three years shown.
It's still a step down from 7.7% in 2025. Attrition, though, edged up to 16.2% in 2026, so employers are paying more selectively: Aon's regional survey found data and AI roles in highest demand (64% of employers), then front-office, cybersecurity and software and cloud roles. For engineers, our offshore tech salary guide and software engineer salary guide show where pay sits.

Before your 2027 salary review
- Check whether you're paid gross or net. Offers in Vietnam are often quoted net. Negotiate the increase on the same basis as your contract, and use the take-home calculator to translate between the two.
- Benchmark the role. Our Vietnam salary pages and the Am I underpaid checker show whether you're below the market for your level, a stronger case than inflation.
- Plan around Tết. The 13th-month salary and Tết bonus are usually paid before the Lunar New Year, often close to review time. Bonuses are taxed in the month paid, so read our 13th-month and Tết bonus guide before you compare offers.
- Register your dependants. Each registered dependant cuts taxable income by ₫6.2 million a month, so more of your increase reaches you. See the personal and dependant deduction guide.
Salary increase 2027 Vietnam: frequently asked questions
What is the average salary increase in Vietnam for 2027?
About 6.7%. Aon's 2026 Salary Increase and Turnover Study projects 6.7% for Vietnam in 2027, the highest of the six Southeast Asian markets it covers, after 6.6% in 2026 and 7.7% in 2025. Life sciences and medical devices leads at 7.7%. It's a budget across all staff, so individual increases vary with performance and role.
Does a 6.7% increase beat inflation in Vietnam?
Yes, for most people. Consumer prices rose 5.1% in the year to September 2026, and 4.5% on average over the first nine months. After personal income tax and insurance, a 6.7% increase lifts take-home pay by about 5.8% to 6.7%, PayMetric Labs' own modelled estimate, so most employees come out ahead in real terms. Higher earners keep less of it, so the margin is thinner at the top.
Why is my increase smaller after tax?
Because Vietnam's tax brackets and the ₫15.5 million personal deduction are fixed amounts, so each increase is taxed at your top rate, from 5% up to 35%. Insurance contributions (10.5% for employees) rise with your salary until the caps. On ₫100 million a month you keep about 69% of an increase, against about 90% on lower salaries.
My salary is agreed net. How does an increase work?
If your contract fixes a net (after-tax) salary, your employer pays the tax and insurance on top, so a net increase costs them more than the same percentage on a gross salary. Ask for increases in the same terms as your contract, and check whether a net figure is guaranteed if tax rules change. Our take-home calculator converts between gross and net.
Is the 13th-month salary and Tết bonus taxed?
Yes. A 13th-month salary (lương tháng 13) and Tết bonus are taxable income in the month they are paid, so a large bonus can be withheld at a higher rate that month. It evens out when your annual tax is finalised. Our 13th-month bonus guide shows the calculation.
Will the minimum wage rise in 2027?
Probably, by about 7.8% from 1 January 2027 if the government adopts the National Wage Council's recommendation, taking Region I to ₫5,700,000 a month. In late September the draft decree was still under review, so check our minimum wage guide for the final figures. Company increase budgets are separate from the minimum wage.
Why did my take-home go up in July 2026 without an increase?
Because the new Personal Income Tax law took effect for salaries from 1 July 2026, replacing seven tax brackets with five wider ones, alongside a higher personal deduction from January. Most employees pay less tax under it, so their net pay rose even with no change in gross salary. The figures on this page use the new rules for both years.
