The standards behind every benchmark, calculator, and article we publish: where figures come from, how we check them, and what happens when we get something wrong.

01

Who writes our content

Articles, calculators, and benchmark pages are produced by the PayMetric Labs Research Desk, our in-house editorial team. The team works remotely across India, Germany, and the United States and covers pay and payroll tax in every market we publish. Bylines carry the Research Desk name because every piece is researched, checked, and maintained as a team rather than by a single author.

02

What we publish

We publish three kinds of content: salary and contractor day-rate benchmarks by role, level, and city; take-home, employer-cost, and contractor calculators built on each country's payroll tax rules; and articles that explain how those rules affect real pay decisions. We only cover topics where we can add a figure or a worked example that a reader can check.

03

Sourcing standards

Tax rates, thresholds, and social contributions come from the official source for each market, such as HMRC in the UK, Revenue in Ireland, the IRS and state revenue departments in the US, the ATO in Australia, and the equivalent authorities elsewhere. Salary and day-rate benchmarks come from recruitment salary guides, job postings, agency rate cards, and public datasets, as described on our Methodology page. Articles link to the primary source wherever a reader may want to verify a rule.

04

Modelled figures are labelled

Some numbers on the site are PayMetric Labs' own modelled estimates rather than figures published by a third party, for example benchmark medians, skill premiums, and currency conversions. We say so near the top of the page where they appear, and each benchmark carries a confidence label (High Confidence, Moderate Confidence, or Limited Market Data) so readers know how much weight a figure can bear.

05

How calculators are checked

Every calculator runs on a tax engine that is written against the official rules for the tax year shown on the page. Before a calculator or an article that quotes its results is published, we test the engine against worked examples from the tax authority or hand calculations. When an engine changes, we recompute the articles that quote it so figures across the site stay consistent.

06

Keeping content current

We review tax engines when a new tax year starts and after national budgets and fiscal events, and we refresh salary benchmarks on a rolling cycle. Articles show an "Updated" date only when their substance changes, such as new rates or recalculated figures, not for cosmetic edits, so the date is a reliable signal of how current the content is.

07

Corrections

If you find an error, email hello@paymetriclabs.com with the page address and what looks wrong. We review every report. When a figure is wrong we fix it, recompute anything that depends on it, and update the page's date. Significant corrections that change a conclusion are noted on the page.

08

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to help with research, data processing, and first drafts. They never have the final say: tax figures come from our tested calculators, rules are checked against official sources, and a member of the Research Desk reviews every page before it is published.

09

Independence and advertising

PayMetric Labs is free to use and may be funded by advertising. Advertisers and partners have no say over our data, rankings, or articles, and ads are always visually separate from editorial content. We do not accept payment to feature an employer, agency, or product. See our advertising page for how commercial partnerships work.

10

Not personal advice

Our content explains how pay and tax rules work and what the market pays. It is not personal financial, tax, or legal advice. For decisions with significant consequences, check your situation with a qualified adviser. Our Terms set out the limits in full.
