Two paths forward

Stay technical

Senior Solutions Architects on the technical track move into Principal or Distinguished Solutions Architect roles, which focus on the most complex and highest-value client engagements. AWS and Microsoft both have internal Distinguished Solutions Architect tracks that are heavily credentialled and carry very high total compensation. The role becomes increasingly strategic at the senior end, with less hands-on design work and more pattern-setting and advisory responsibility.

Move into management

Solutions Architect to Delivery Director or Head of Pre-sales to VP Solutions or CTO. The management path is accessible for architects who build strong client relationships and commercial acumen. Many senior solutions architects prefer to remain in technical roles given the pay ceiling available on the specialist track, which is one of the highest in Irish enterprise technology.

Career path questions for Solutions Architects in Ireland

1

Is Solutions Architect in demand in New Zealand in 2026?

Demand is high and stable. Solutions Architect hiring in New Zealand is steady, anchored by Xero, Trade Me, and the growing Auckland SaaS scene (Vista Group, Pushpay, EROAD, Halter). Demand is concentrated in Auckland and Wellington, and New Zealand employers are increasingly having to compete with Australian salary bands to keep candidates from taking their OE across the Tasman.

2

How does New Zealand's income tax affect Solutions Architect take-home pay?

New Zealand taxes income on a progressive PAYE scale administered by Inland Revenue (IRD): 10.5% up to NZ$15,600, 17.5% up to NZ$53,500, 30% up to NZ$78,100, 33% up to NZ$180,000, and 39% above that, plus a 1.75% ACC Earner's Levy on top. Employers also make a compulsory KiwiSaver contribution (minimum 3%) alongside the employee's own KiwiSaver deduction, so take-home pay depends on your tax bracket and your chosen KiwiSaver contribution rate.

3

How do you become a Solutions Architect in Ireland?

Senior software engineers and cloud engineers with strong system design skills and an appetite for client-facing work are the typical entry point. The step requires being able to translate technical architecture into business outcomes and present confidently to non-technical decision-makers. Most successful transitions involve building this communication skill before making the formal move.

4

What certifications help a Solutions Architect in Ireland?

AWS Solutions Architect Professional is the most broadly recognised credential across the Irish market. For Microsoft-heavy environments, Azure Solutions Architect Expert carries equivalent weight. Beyond cloud certifications, TOGAF is valued at enterprise-level roles where governance and architecture frameworks are part of the daily work.

5

Is Solutions Architecture a good career in Ireland for the long term?

The role is durable because the need to translate between business requirements and technical solutions is not going away. AI has made this more complex, not less. Architects who can navigate enterprise AI adoption, data governance, and cloud cost management are in a stronger position than ever.

6

What is the pay difference between Solutions Architect and Enterprise Architect in Ireland?

Enterprise Architects earn €125 to €215k in Ireland versus €100 to €162k for Solutions Architects. The gap reflects the broader technology estate governance responsibility and the C-suite relationship management that Enterprise Architecture requires.
