Candidates evaluating offers should compare true net income rather than gross salary alone.

As an incorporated contractor with an 18% loading over 230 billable days, a CA$115K permanent QA Automation Lead base salary converts to roughly CA$590/day. An unincorporated sole proprietor typically needs a higher loading (20%-30%), since they pay both the employee and employer halves of CPP with no employer to split the contribution. Use the Canada day rate calculator at /ca/calculators/ca-day-rate-calculator to adjust structure and billable days.

Multiply the permanent base salary by a contractor loading factor (typically 15%–25% incorporated or 20%–30% sole proprietor), then divide by realistic billable days for the year (commonly 230). That loading covers unpaid leave, statutory holidays, and, for a sole proprietor, the doubled CPP contribution an employer would otherwise share. Always confirm whether a quoted rate assumes incorporated or sole proprietor status before comparing offers.
