Product Management does not have a formal senior individual contributor track in the same way engineering does. The equivalent is deep specialisation: becoming the recognised authority on a particular product domain, pricing model, or market segment. Some companies have Principal PM or Distinguished PM titles, but these are not standardised across the market. Most senior PMs who do not want to manage people move into advisory, consulting, or founding roles.
Senior PM to Group PM or Lead PM to Director of Product to VP Product to CPO. The Group PM step is where formal management begins: owning a portfolio of product areas and managing other PMs. The CPO track requires a demonstrable record of taking products from zero to significant revenue, not just shipping features on time.
PMs typically progress into Head of Product, Director of Product, or CPO roles. A smaller cohort moves into founder or operator roles at startups.

Engineers who have already been doing informal product work are the strongest candidates: writing specs, running discovery with customers, or owning a product area end-to-end without a dedicated PM. The formal transition is easier when you have a portfolio of product decisions to discuss in interviews, not just technical contributions.
Around €25,000 to €30,000 at the median. A strong mid-level PM earns €72 to €90k; a newly promoted Senior PM earns €95 to €115k at most Dublin tech companies. The step also typically comes with greater equity allocation, which can be significant at growth-stage companies.
Yes, and it is often underestimated as a management step. Group PMs manage other PMs directly in addition to owning a product area. The transition requires developing the ability to coach PMs on prioritisation and stakeholder management, not just doing those things yourself. It is a genuine management role, not just a senior individual contributor with a different title.
Most PMs reach Senior between years 5 and 8. The step requires demonstrating that you have owned a product strategy end-to-end, not just managed delivery of an existing roadmap. PMs who have launched a new product or significantly repositioned an existing one move fastest.
