Estimates use 2026-27 Australian resident tax rates and a 12% Super Guarantee. They do not model the SG contribution base, equity, leave, private health premiums, family MLS rules, salary sacrifice, bonus-specific super treatment, or all HELP repayment-income adjustments. Confirm the contract wording and every benefit in writing.

Compare Australian job offers after tax and super

The first question is not which offer has the larger number. It is what that number means. A package that includes super leaves less cash salary than the same number quoted as base plus super. Once you add tax, expected bonus, student-loan repayments, Medicare charges, and commuting, the offer that looks smaller can be the better financial choice.

Use this as a structured comparison, then check the contract's salary, super, bonus, and review clauses. The Australian Taxation Office sets the minimum Super Guarantee at 12%, but the amount and earnings base in a particular offer can be more favourable or have important conditions.

Australia job offer comparison FAQs

1

How do I compare two Australian job offers fairly?

Start by confirming whether each quoted figure is base salary plus super or a package that includes super. Then compare cash salary after tax, employer super, the realistic rather than headline bonus, commute cost, and any deductions that apply to you. This calculator shows those figures side by side so the larger package number does not hide a smaller cash salary.

2

Why can an offer with a lower package leave more cash in my account?

A salary quoted plus super can have a higher cash base than a slightly larger package inclusive of super. Tax, an expected bonus, HECS/HELP repayments, the Medicare Levy Surcharge, and commute costs can also change the result. Compare the cash-after-tax figure, not the package headline alone.

3

Does this calculator include the 12% Super Guarantee?

Yes. It uses a simplified 12% Super Guarantee comparison. When an offer is marked plus super, the contribution is added on top of the quoted salary. When it is marked inclusive, part of the quoted package is allocated to super. Real contracts can have a contribution base, award terms, or higher employer rate that changes this.

4

How should I treat a bonus when comparing offers?

Enter the annual target and set the confidence slider to the probability you believe it will be paid. A discretionary bonus with vague targets may deserve a lower confidence than a contractual, formula-based bonus. The calculator taxes the expected bonus with salary, which is an estimate rather than payroll advice.

5

Why can the HECS/HELP or MLS comparison look wrong?

HELP repayment income and Medicare Levy Surcharge income can be broader than cash salary. They may include reportable benefits, salary-sacrificed super, investment items, and family circumstances. The optional checks are single-person estimates, so use the dedicated tools and current ATO guidance for an exact position.

6

What benefits are not included in the comparison?

Equity, private health premiums, leave loading, training budgets, insurance, flexible work value, promotion prospects, and work satisfaction are not converted to dollars here. Add those values to your decision separately, and ask the employer for their terms in writing.
