Most specialists move from platform configuration into owning a bank's or fintech's entire regulatory reporting stack, then into a Head of Compliance Technology or RegTech Lead role. Some move sideways into pure compliance leadership once they build enough regulatory fluency, trading the technical work for policy-setting responsibility.
Candidates coming from either a software engineering background with an interest in financial regulation, or a compliance/legal background with strong data and SQL skills, both transition in successfully.
