Calculations follow Labor Code Articles 86-96 (night shift differential, overtime, rest-day, and holiday pay) and the DOLE-BWC premium pay multiplier table. Assumes a monthly-paid rank-and-file employee not exempt from these provisions (managerial staff, field personnel, and a few other categories are excluded by law). Company policy, CBAs, or a higher basic wage in your contract can change the actual figures. For borderline cases, check with DOLE or your HR team.

How premium pay actually stacks

Philippine labor law builds premium pay in layers, and the layers multiply rather than add. A normal overtime hour pays 125% of your hourly rate. But once a day already carries a premium (a rest day at 130%, a special non-working holiday at 130%, or a regular holiday at 200%), overtime on that day adds another 30% on top of the already-boosted rate, not the plain rate. That's why regular-holiday overtime lands at 260% (200% x 130%) rather than a simpler 225%.

Night shift differential works the same way. Any hour worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM earns an extra 10%, calculated on whatever rate already applies to that hour. A night-shift hour on an ordinary day pays 110%. A night-shift overtime hour on a regular holiday that also falls on your rest day pays hourlyRate x 3.38 x 1.10, the highest combination the law produces.

Regular holidays and special non-working holidays are treated differently when unworked. A regular holiday still pays 100% of your daily wage even if you stay home, as long as you were present or on approved paid leave the workday before it. A special non-working holiday follows "no work, no pay" by default, unless your employer's policy or a collective bargaining agreement says otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

1

How much is overtime pay in the Philippines?

On an ordinary working day, overtime (any work beyond 8 hours) pays at least 125% of your hourly rate for every OT hour. On a rest day, special non-working holiday, or regular holiday, OT pays 130% of that day's already-boosted hourly rate, so the OT premium stacks on top of the day-type premium rather than replacing it.

2

What is night shift differential and when does it apply?

Night shift differential (NSD) is a mandatory extra 10% of your hourly rate for every hour worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM (Labor Code Article 86). It stacks multiplicatively on whatever rate already applies to that hour, so a night-shift OT hour on a regular holiday pays hourlyRate x 2.60 x 1.10, not a flat addition.

3

How is rest-day pay calculated?

Work on your scheduled rest day pays at least 130% of your basic hourly rate for the first 8 hours. Overtime beyond 8 hours on a rest day pays 130% of that already-boosted rate, or 169% of your normal hourly rate (Labor Code Article 93).

4

What's the difference between a special non-working holiday and a regular holiday?

A regular holiday (e.g. New Year's Day, Independence Day) guarantees 100% pay even if you don't work it, and 200% if you do. A special non-working holiday (e.g. Ninoy Aquino Day, All Saints' Day) follows "no work, no pay" unless your company has a more generous policy, but pays 130% of your rate if you do work it (150% if it also falls on your rest day).

5

Do I get paid if I don't work on a regular holiday?

Yes. Under Labor Code Article 94, you're entitled to 100% of your daily wage for an unworked regular holiday, provided you were present or on paid leave on the workday immediately before it. This calculator's "I did not work" option shows that figure directly.

6

What is 260% and 338% pay, and when do they apply?

260% applies to the first 8 hours worked on a regular holiday that also falls on your rest day (200% holiday rate x 130% rest-day premium). 338% is overtime beyond 8 hours on that same day (260% x 130% OT uplift). These are the highest premium tiers under Philippine labor law.

7

Does this apply to all employees?

These provisions cover most rank-and-file employees. Managerial employees, field personnel whose hours can't be determined with reasonable certainty, and a few other categories listed in the Labor Code are exempt from the overtime and premium-pay articles, even though many employers pay some equivalent as a matter of policy.
